조 예 본 | Yeabon Jo ; Composer & sound artist based in South Korea
Yeabon Jo studied composition at Chugye University for the Arts (B.M.) and later pursued a degree in Music Technology at the Korea National University of Arts.
From 2017 to 2021, he worked as a composer and sound engineer with the art collective Arts Incubator.
Between 2021 and 2023, he was a researcher at the Institute for Integrated Technology at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), where he conducted research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
In 2023, Jo joined the Sound Lab at the Asia Culture Center (ACC) as a researcher, where he explored sound through a range of interdisciplinary methodologies rooted in the humanities, society, culture, technology, and anthropology. The research was led by Prof. Suk-jun Kim and carried out in collaboration with sound artists and researchers Jiyeong Yoon and Mihye Cha.
Yeabon Jo explores the intersection of art, technology, and the humanities through sound. His practice is grounded in a deep curiosity about how technical methodologies—such as field recording, computer programming, and interaction techniques—can transcend their functional roles and evolve into expressive media. Through this process, he investigates the cultural and historical layers embedded in sound and how they both shape and are shaped by human experience.
